Understanding asthma - in simple terms

Asthma affects your airways - the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs. When your asthma flares up, these airways become:

  • Narrow and tight
  • Inflamed and swollen
  • Full of sticky mucus

This makes i t harder to breathe and can be frightening, but with the right treatment and management, you can keep your asthma under control.
